Festival Survival Kits

In Ithaca, NY there is one event that every body knows about: Grassroots.

Grassroots Festival of Music and Dance has been going strong and building a cult-like folk following for over 20 years.

I will be attending Grassroots for the second time ever in my life, and I’d like to think I have a handle on what to wear at events like this. As a traveling soul and lover of all music, festivals were always a great time for me to “busk” my goods and make a little pocket cash, at a place where free-spirits congregate together!

This year I planned in advance the outfits I would wear through out the weekend. My business partner Heidi and I both make clothing and accessories for the funky young woman who loves dancing, holla-hooping and camping with friends, so we decided to include our own gal-pals in the fashion side of things.  We made bikinis and crop tops for all our favorite tiny-dancers!

In the quest to find the most perfect items for a festival, I found my good friend Sarah’s “festival survival kit” and wanted to share it with our Art and Found Family.

This kit will pull you through any weather, hang over, crowd, or bad date with a clever intelligence only the cosmos of shake-down street could explain!

I was so inspired by Sarah’s festival kit, that I wanted to incorporate that same kind of creativity into my wardrobe and make sure I was wearing an outfit that would allow me to dance, holla, and run to hug my friends!

1. cowboy boots: always a must

2. exotic native tube dress (day or night)

3. organic cotton Fringe bikini

4. new mexico blanket

5. the latest Paris Vogue (reading between shows)

6. cherries

7. water

8. bells for my ankles (and for dancing!)

9. water bottle bag

10. floppy sun hat

So go out there and have some fun this summer.  But make sure to be safe, prepared, and Open minded!

Much love, time to go dance!

Olivia
